איזה מאפיינים של המחקר מעניינים את הבוחנים של הבקשות?

הבוחנים מצפים להצעה שאינה “שבלונית”.

הם מצפים למחקר מקורי, חדשני, יצירתי…

הם מצפים לראות חוקרים המבינים את המרחב בו המחקר נערך, אבל, ובעיקר את ההשפעות האפשריות תוצאותיו.

לדעת איך לכתוב כמו שצריך את החלקים שלא קשורים באופן ישיר להצעת המחקר

זו שאלה כוללנית מדי, אבל טיפים נפלאים והמלצות נהדרות אפשר למצוא כאן.

סעיף 2.3, סעיף שמדבר על ניהול סיכונים. אני מתקשה גם בחלוקת הסעיפים השונים לכדי עמידה ביעד של 10 עמודים. בהמשך אצטרך סיוע בעריכה לשונית.

הסיכונים שיש להתייחס אליהם הם הסיכונים מבחינת המחקר ומכל בחינה אחרת, העלולים לשבש את הפעילות בפרויקט, או לא להגיע לתוצאות המקוות.

מה תעשה/י אם המחקר לא יניב את התוצאות המצופות בשלב מוקדם יחסית – אלו מסלולים אחרים יאפשרו המשך המחקר? אולי מסלולים עוקפים ואולי מסלולים אחרים?

ובכלל, מה הסבירות שאכן השאלה המדעית כל כך מורכבת וחדשנית, שהתוצאות עלולות להיות שונות מהמצופות.

תכנית המחקר בפוסטדוק כמה לעומק וכמה מורחב זה צריך להיות

התכנית צריכה להציג תמונה רחבה דיה להבנת המעריכים את הפוטנציאל, החדשנות, המקוריות, והחשיבות של המחקר.

אין צורך לכתוב את הפרוטוקול, אבל אפשר לציין שעל סמך פרוטוקול X שיותאם למחקר Y וכו’..

המתודולוגיה צריכה להראות למעריכים את החשיבה וההתמודדות עם האתגר – האם ריאלי? אפשרי? וכו’

What is the expected level of detail for B-1, section 3? Is being terse effective?

You must convince the evaluators that the research is feasible and well handled. In this part, feasibility relates mainly to the relevant facilities at the host organization, which will be available for you. If some facilities are missing – which access to other facilities will be granted to you?

At the same time, you should relate to the management aspects – who is in charge of what? Ill you get some administrative assistance? How often will you hold meetings with your mentor(s) to discuss the progress in your research, etc.

The risk management table – please be sure you pay extra attention to the relevant risks – research related and beyond.

If I apply for a one year fellowship will it harm my chances with respect so someone else who is applying for a two or three year fellowship?

That may depend on your vision. In reality, by the time you finish setting your research, a year is almost over… unless you are already working in that lab, and your research is running for a while.

So if the evaluators may hesitate if the impact of your fellowship on your future career is marginal q minimal – they would prefer providing the grant to someone else.

Is there such a thing as “”an overly ambitious proposal”” (especially if it’s a one year application)? If so, how to remedy such a thing?

Yes, it may happen.

For example, if the evaluators find your research plan too “condensed” for the fellowship period, for example – too many activities or the time frames for each activities is, in their opinion, too short.

How specific should the proposal be?
Assuming I know the subject and tools, but have no specific question.

I’m not sure I understand the question – do you mean you have no hypothesis? You should have research objectives, which should rely on some hypothesis. Is it not the case in your scientific field?

Specifically, that depends on the lab I will join, which I do not know yet”

If you haven’t found a lab yet, and you have no “driving” scientific question, yet, I would assume it is too late to start preparing a successful proposal now. There are too many things for consideration. I would suggest you to carefully check your options, including submitting next year.

Looking at previous proposals people have emphasized the excellence part (6-7 pages) but in the latest seminars I have attended it seems it should be quite short – 5 pages.

I am afraid now that it is too short! and am torn between recent tips and previous proposals.

I don’t know how “old” are the successful proposals in your hands.

You should write the way you feel right for your research, while covering all aspects the best way you can.

Don’t leave any question with 2-3 sentences only, as this would not be admired by the evaluators and the final score will reflect that.

The Impact section should be considered seriously, as the EC wishes to fund grants with impact far beyond the fellowship.
