Karin Yaniv, Ph.D.

Regional Manager - Berkeley

Karin is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology and she is supported by the Zuckerman STEM leadership foundation. She investigates how and why bacteria enter into and awaken from dormancy; a programmed sleep associated with a stressful environment. Karin received her PhD in Biotechnology Engineering from Ben-Gurion University. She dealt with a strategy to inhibit bacterial communication and pathogenesis using marine metagenome functional screening. When the Covid-19 pandemic emerged, Karin joined the BGU Corona Task Force, and led a project in cooperation with the Israeli Health Ministry to detect the virus in wastewater, as a tool for epidemiological analysis and population monitoring.
