SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our Client is a clinical-stage drug discovery and development company with a unique, broadly applicable, predictive discovery infrastructure, which is advancing a therapeutic pipeline consisting mainly of early-stage immuno-oncology programs, aimed at harnessing the immune system to eradicate cancer. Our pipeline is based on novel discovered drug targets, primarily immune checkpoint candidates that are predicted to provide cancer immunotherapies addressing unmet cancer types and patient populations. The Computational Research and Discovery team at our client identifies these novel drug targets through integration of biological knowledge, genome and experimental data analysis.
The Senior Director of the discovery unit leads the computational discovery team which consist of bioinformaticians, algorithmic scientists, biologists and software engineers and responsible for leading the team in developing discovery programs including writing of algorithms, solutions for data analysis and setting the program workflows. He works in a multidisciplinary matrix and work closely with the other R&D unit’ teams.
This role requires strong knowledge and experience in bioinformatic analyses in the pharma/biotech filed. Algorithm developments and any scientific programming language, development in UNIX environment (advantageous: R, Perl or Python), is a significant bonus.
The Senior Director of the Discovery unit reports to the VP R&D.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Leading the drug discovery unit in the field of immuno-oncology
Maintains an up-to-date understanding and tools required for the design and development of novel computational and statistical algorithms on biological and clinical data for drug discovery. Serves as an internal expert in these areas
Communicates computational discovery efforts at scientific and management meetings.
Works closely with programs leaders to ensure timely progress in computational programs, works with VP R&D to prioritize programs and resource utilization, and presents updates to the company scientific and executive staff.
Works with senior management to set strategic direction for the unit to advance new innovative programs.
Assists in development and tracking of unit goals and budgets
Leading the development of professional capabilities and computational tools for the use of the discovery efforts
– Ph. D/ M.sc in Mathematics/Bioinformatics / Computational Biology / Physics /Computational Sciences
Experience in Bioinformatics in the biotech/pharma filed of at least 4 years Experience in managing and leading a team for at least 2 years
Programming skills (Required: any scientific programming language, development in
UNIX environment, Advantageous: R, Perl or Python) is an advantage Experience in the in the field of immuno-oncology is an advantage
Experience with expression and sequence analysis is an advantage
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience with a global company a plus
