Katya is a PhD student at the “Concrete Sustainability Hub” at the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Her passion lies in structural resiliency of the city scape to flood related natural disasters. Outside of her research she is a member of the MIT water club including co-directing the 2022 MIT water hackathon, and the structural mentor of the Engineers Without Borders the MIT chapter. Joining in September of 2020, she is a fellow for the MIT  office of sustainability joining as a climate resiliency modeler and simulator.  Katerina is working on developing an improved method to assess, predict and mitigate storm and flood induced hazards, also considering the impacts of climate change on the severity of damages.
