Prof. Irit Akirav is the director of the Learning and Memory lab at the University of Haifa’s Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying the impact of cannabinoids on psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders and the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in stress, memory, and plasticity.

Prof. Akirav previously served as the Head of the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Haifa.  She is the recipient of an Alon scholarship awarded from the Israeli Council for Higher Education (Malag) and a graduate of the first cohort of the “Leadership in Academia” program, a national initiative, co-founded by the Rothschild Foundation and the Israeli Council for Higher Education.
